Winter Event – A Food Experience In The Perth Hills

Join us for a long table lunch at La Fattoria, to experience a journey of Italian food and culture. This restaurant is a family run establishment, called a “trattoria”, where there is a series of dishes shared at the table, typical of an Italian family meal. Pickering Brook is only a short drive from Perth, along Canning Highway and then Pickering Brook Rd. It’s a picturesque drive through rolling hills of orchards and vineyards.
We begin the day with a visit to the Fruit Corner. The owners will take us for an orchard walk and talk to see the beauty of trees in full blossom and creeks running with winter rains. They will provide us with a calendar of picking times in spring to late summer, when visitors can come and pick their own fruit and vegetables.
Five minutes down the road is La Fattoria where you will be warmly welcomed and will have stunning views over vineyards and orchards.
At La Fattoria, you will enjoy a delicious 5 course meal, with small group wine tastings of their wonderful range of Italian style wines. The food experience will also include tastings of their Modican style cold pressed chocolates, a unique style made in Sicily. Information will be provided about each course and sourcing of ingredients.
THE MENU: “Conversation with Italy”
Chisciol: a delicious traditional buckwheat pancake from upper Valtellina. Each year, a celebration called Sagra dei chisciol promotes this mouth-watering local treat.
Anitpasto: with cauliflower fritters, local olives, preserves, meats, cheese, bread and olive oil
Spiced pumpkin soup: with crumbed sausage, cream, herbs and parmesan cheese
Baked chicken with orange, marsala and black olives: served with red cabbage and apple, roast potatoes and rocket salad
Warm Sicilian apple cake: with butterscotch sauce, mascarpone cream and toasted walnuts
Wines, non alcoholic drinks and coffee available to buy
Vegetarian and gluten free meals will be provided on request. Requests need to be mentioned with booking.
La Fattoria’s family history
Eric and Lucy are the owners of La Fattoria, a family of Sicilian and British heritage that has resided on the property since 1945. Currently 3 generations live and work on the 25 acre orchard and vineyard.
Originally a commercial orchard producing stone fruit, apples and pears, the property now includes a vineyard that has eleven Italian varieties. The family produces standalone wines for each variety, resisting the temptation to blend. This provides customers with the chance to experience Italian wine varieties in their purest form.
In the course of the long table lunch, you will have the opportunity to taste and discuss these wines. There is also their own apple juice or sparkling water and Rubra coffee
